1.2 Comments on project
In this section I would like to talk a little bit about why I'm building this project, its shortcomings and what I want out of it in the future.
Let's start with why I'm building the sim. I originally started building this simulator back in December 2025 as a senior in high school with the end goal of using it in a portfolio for college applications, while that was the goal on paper the real reason was because I really just wanted a project to work on, and what better project to work on then one about rockets. After the application cycle ended (It didn't go well for me) I kept on working on the project, it had turned from just something to put on my portfolio to a project that I really enjoyed improving, after seeing some success on hacker news and when search engines started to pick it up I realized that I might have something here that might be able to help people and help me learn at the same time. So it evolved into a learning project and that's why I made this document, as a way to prove to myself that I know the material before implementing it into the simulator as well as for people to know that I wrote it all myself. To this day I keep on working on the project and as I have just opened a new feedback section id love to hear what people have to say to help me improve my project
The shortcomings. The main shortcoming from the simulator is that it's in 2 dimensions only, while it does help to teach the basics of orbital mechanics it's not as hard/as realistic as it should be. This is a product of my lack of knowledge. When I started it I was confident in calc 2 but hadn't gotten to multivariable calculus and I didn't want to use AI to do all the math that I couldn't check, I have yet to receive any feedback on either github or the sim it self about shortcomings in terms of physics engine but im always listening
What I want out of it in the future, I really want this to be used as an educational tool to help get people into space, to help foster the young mind to love rockets and space the way I do. I have no desire to monetize access to the platform because I believe learning should be free for all, especially for something so dear to my heart. That being said if traffic gets high enough I might experiment with an add just to see if I can't get some small amount of income for college.
Final notes, Thank you so much everyone for your support whether you realize it or not it means the world to me that my niche project can get even just a little bit of traction, so thank you for using my website and happy rocketeering.
